Terms of Use
Last updated 8 September 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Hygge Today for use of the Hygge Today app and this website. By creating an account, or by using the app as a guest, you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the app.
1. Who can use Hygge
You must be at least 13 years old, or at least 16 where the law where you live requires it. If you are under 18, please read these terms with a parent or guardian.
2. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details to yourself and for anything done through your account. Tell us at contact@hygge.today if you think someone else has got in.
You may use Hygge as a guest without an account. A guest account lives on one device: if you delete the app or lose the device without creating a full account first, that writing is gone, and we cannot recover it.
3. What you write stays yours
Your entries, notes, photos, voice memos and everything else you put into Hygge remain yours. You give us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store your content, move it between your devices, back it up, display it back to you, and, for the features described in section 5, send the relevant part of it to our AI provider so it can answer you. That permission exists only to operate Hygge, it is not transferable to anyone else, and it ends when you delete the content or your account.
We do not sell your content, we do not publish it, and we do not use it to train AI models.
4. Using Hygge properly
Please do not use Hygge to break the law, to store or share material you have no right to, to harass anyone, or to attack, overload, reverse engineer or circumvent the limits of the service. We may suspend or close an account that does, and we will tell you why unless we are legally prevented from doing so.
5. The AI features, and their limits
Hygge can write back to you: daily and evening reflections, a weekly summary, a writing companion, a prompt drawn from a quote, and a cycle assistant. These run on large language models supplied by a third-party AI provider, and are shaped by what you have written and the focus areas you chose.
Two things follow from that, and they matter:
- The output can be wrong. Generated text may be inaccurate, may misread your meaning, or may simply be unhelpful. Read it as a prompt for your own thinking, not as a finding.
- It is not professional advice. Hygge is a journalling app. Nothing it produces is medical, mental health, psychological, legal or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for a qualified professional. It is not a crisis service and it is not monitored by a human. If you are in crisis or at risk, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line.
Fair use limits apply to the AI features so the service stays available to everyone. We may change those limits.
6. Health, mood and cycle features
Trackers, mood logging, health goals and the cycle tracker are there to help you notice patterns. They are not a medical device and they do not diagnose, treat or prevent anything.
The cycle tracker in particular predicts from the history you enter. Those predictions are estimates. Do not rely on Hygge as a method of contraception or as a way of achieving pregnancy, and speak to a clinician about anything that concerns you.
7. Scripture and devotional content
Hygge includes bible translations, verses, quotations and devotional readings. We ship a translation only where the text is in the public domain or where we hold a licence for it; where a licence requires attribution, the credit is shown in the reader. This material is provided for your personal, non-commercial use within the app, and remains the property of its respective rights holders. If you hold rights in something we have included and believe we have got it wrong, write to contact@hygge.today and we will act promptly.
8. Changes, interruptions and endings
We improve the app continuously, so features may change or be retired. We will give reasonable notice in the app before removing something you actively use. We do not promise the service will be uninterrupted; maintenance, outages and the failures of the networks and providers we depend on all happen.
You may stop using Hygge at any time and delete your account from the profile tab in the app, which starts the 30-day deletion described in the Privacy Policy. We may close an account that breaches these terms, or if we discontinue the service, and in that case we will give you reasonable notice and a chance to get your content out.
9. Our responsibility to you
We give you the app as it is. To the extent the law allows, we do not make promises about the app beyond those set out here, and we are not liable for losses we could not reasonably have foreseen, for business losses, or for the consequences of relying on generated text or on tracker predictions.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
Keep your own copies of anything you cannot bear to lose. We back up in good faith but we are not an archive of record.
10. The app stores
Hygge Today is distributed through the mobile app stores. A store is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to provide support for the app. Apple is, however, entitled to enforce these terms against you as a third-party beneficiary of your licence to use the iOS app. Where these terms conflict with a store's own end user licence terms for applications, the more protective of your rights applies. You also agree that you are not located in a country subject to an embargo that would prevent you from using the app, and that you will comply with the store's terms of service.
11. Changes to these terms
We reserve the right to update these terms at any time, as the app changes and as the law does. When we do, we will change the date at the top, and for anything significant we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Hygge after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms; if you would rather not, you can stop using the app and delete your account.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the law of the European Union member state in which the operator of Hygge Today is established. Nothing here removes the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, and you may always bring proceedings in your local courts.
